hormone production and metabolism
The thyroid gland controls hormones and metabolism. An overactive thyroid can lose weight, because they burn off so much energy. You can become very nervous and find sleeping difficult. An underactive thyroid works the opposite way. People with this condition tend to be slow moving and constantly tired. A healthy thyroid gland maintains middle ground between these two conditions. The thyroid takes iodine from the blood and uses it to produce important hormones. Hope this has helped.
There are so many! I have Hashimoto's disease with a goiter. Hashimoto's is an underactive thyroid. It controls your metabolism and the hormones sends ';messages'; to other glands in your body, like the ovaries and testes. You may experience tiredness, forgetfulness, depression, coarse dry skin, slow heartbeat, weight gain, constipation and intolerance to cold. Some signs of hyperthyroidism are Sudden weight loss, Fatigue and muscle weakness, Nervousness and anxiety,Increased sweating,Fast heartbeat
Tremors, and Wider, swollen or red eyes. So, as you can see the thyroid can affect functioning of pretty much every system in your body! Also, if you are a woman, it can affect your ovulation and menstrual cycle too! Also, when my synthroid level is too low, my brain feels like it is under a cloud and I am all fuzzy and really really forgetful! Hope this helps!
