When a four yr.old stops breathing and loses control of her bodily functions .whats wrong?

everytime my four yr.old hurts herself and begins to cry she stops breathing and loses control of her bladder, she begins to turn purplish and will start jerking her arms and legs as if trying to breathe then her body will go limp and her eyes will close.she then starts breathing again and opens her eyes but then she'll look around disoriented before she starts to cry normal or whimper.she's been doing this since she was a baby and doctors say its a tantrum thing but i don't agree i've never seen anything like this before can anybody shed some light on this! When a four yr.old stops breathing and loses control of her bodily functions .whats wrong?
my daughter does something similar to that. when she gets hurt she passes out and looks as if she is having a seizure but it is actually vasovagal syndrome. A condition when the person is psyched out or hurt triggers their vaso vagal nerve and causes their blood pressure to drop and pass out also can cause trimmers that look like a seizure and they can loose control of body functions too. I believe your child might have this..read up on it and talk to the doctor...my husband has this too..he was misdiagnosed when he was a child and was treated for epilepsy instead then finally one doctor figured out what was really going on...good luck to u and your daughter. When a four yr.old stops breathing and loses control of her bodily functions .whats wrong?
Sounds like possible seizures or vagel nerve shut down. For the seizures when the brain can't handle pain it will sometimes shut down thru seizure activity or it will press down on the vagal nerve and cause a person to pass out. When having a seizure it is not uncommon for one to lose bladder control, drool out the mouth. When they come back around they are usually disoriented for awhile and may not remember what happened the last few minutes or even an hour or so. Ask the dr about seizures...My 18 yr has had seizure since she was 6 yrs and it is due to miagranes. The brain can't handle the pain activity so it goes into a seizure. There are plenty of meds out there that can help to control and handle these episodes.. Don't stress out on this but don't sit on it either. Find you a good children's neurologist and have on hand the number of times it has happened, how long they last, what kind of tremors was she having, what she was doing at the time it occurred. This will help the neuro figure out how to treat the situation correctly.. Good Luck...Hope she improves soon...
Sounds like seizures. My dog use to do that... she had epileptic seizures. Id have her checked out asap!!!!
I did this as a child, had to have cat scans and what not, was told I was NOT having fits or seizuires or tantrums. The little flap of skin that closes over the trachea when you eat (epigloits sorry for spelling) was inmature and it would flip over while I wasnt eating and basically sufficate me, it often happened in a tantrum type crying spell because I was so upset I was breathing quicker and it would just do its thing and I wouldnt breathe. I had CPR done on me twice. My niece also did this. The good thing is kids usually outgrow it. I stopped about 3, my niece 4.
You need to see a neurologist and get a new pedi doctor. It sounds to me that she may be having a seizure. They have medication to help with it. Not getting enough oxygen to the brain and cause brain damage. My advice is to get her an appointment with a childs Neurologist to have it checked out.

Best of luck
Take her to a neurologist who is a specialist in children, do you have a Children's Hospital near you?

Have blood work done, an MRI, Cat scan and Pet scan. She needs a full work up from someone who understands these are not tantrum fits.

What you have said is presenting as seizures, you need to log them, when she has them, what happens, how long they occur, start to see if there is any change, but you need to get her into the hospital for testing now. Don't take no for an answer until you find the root of this problem. Finding a great doctor is the key. Call around or look on the Internet and find the doctor that will work with you.

I will pray for you and your child.

Write me back if you need further help

God Bless
first off, I have seen some kids do this, as a tantrum.

but I have also seen one that the parents thought it was just a tantrum and it was seizures.

does her eyes roll back in her head when she closed her eyes?

does she respond at all when she goes limp?

I would take her to another dr, to get a second opinion.

there are alot of good drs out there, but they all have different experiences. When I was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, it was only after going to five different drs. the majority of the drs told me not to worry about it, nothing was wrong, when in fact I had cancer for two years before a dr finally caught it.

take her to another dr, and get her looked at, there is a test they can do to see for sure if it is seizures or not.
I would make an appointment with the doctor yesterday. Let the professionals figure this one out and if it is temper tantrums she will need psych help. Either way she will need help.

Best of luck to you!

It sounds like a seizure to me I would go to another doctor and get a second opinion before she really gets messed up Every time she passes out she is not getting oxygen to the brain she is way to young to understand how to through that kind of a tantrum. Generally a doctor tells parents not to worry if a child holds their breath because they will breathe before they pass out -- something is not right in your little girl search out the truth.
